    CMS Hospital Compare Star Ratings

    The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) issues annual star ratings for 4,000 of the nation’s hospitals based on 57 quality measures across seven performance areas. The most common rating is 3 star.

    Munson Healthcare is pleased that in 2017 all of our hospitals received either 5-star or 4-star ratings.

    • VerifyMICare: Michigan Health & Hospital Association provides reliable information about quality care that is easy to understand. Information about Michigan hospitals and side by side comparisons allow you to make informed decisions about where to have your care.
    • CMS Hospital Compare: Hospital Compare was created through the efforts of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), along with the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA). The HQA is a public-private collaboration established to promote reporting on hospital quality of care. 
    • Why Not the Best: IPRO is a leading quality evaluation organization that works with healthcare providers across the nation on clinical quality improvement projects. It maintains a “Why Not the Best” website that allows consumers to compare hospitals based on quality data.
    • The Joint Commission: The Joint Commission accredits and certifies nearly 15,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States. An independent, not-for-profit organization, Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality.
