Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital is a 25-bed facility that has served Charlevoix County and the surrounding area for nearly 100 years. As part of the nine-hospital Munson Healthcare system, it provides convenient, close-to-home inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital is consistently recognized for exceptionally high patient, physician, and staff satisfaction and was recently named one of the Top 100 critical access hospitals in the nation.

Healthcare has never been simple, but the COVID-19 pandemic has driven us to go beyond what we ever thought was possible and has pushed Munson Healthcare to remodel the way we provide care for patients, while keeping staff protected in their new work environments.
Although it is uncertain what the future may bring, we know by maintaining and strengthening core services at Charlevoix Hospital, we are securing healthcare for future generations to come. Our primary focus is, and will always be, your health, safety, and well-being.
Emergency Services
Within the last year alone, Charlevoix Hospital administered emergency care for life-threatening illnesses and injuries with over 8,500 visits to the Emergency Department. With the increased volume of patients in need of acute, unscheduled emergency care around-the-clock, it is critical we continue to promote efficient workflow among first-responders, caregivers, patients, and their families. While the needs of our patients may continue to change, the need for high-quality emergency care remains constant and we are committed to taking the steps to ensure the Emergency Department remains strong.
Surgical Services
No area of the hospital is subject to as much rapid growth and advancement in medical technology. The progressive expansion of surgical methods and equipment keeps surgical care and recovery local while improving patient experience. Using advanced, leading edge diagnostic and surgical technology, patients are provided with minimally invasive procedures, faster recovery, less pain and blood loss, and a lower chance of infection. To keep pace with the latest advancements, Charlevoix Hospital must regularly update and replace critical technology and equipment to keep surgical procedures local, while expanding the range of procedures available.
Maternity
The safe arrival of your baby is our top priority, which is why Charlevoix Hospital leadership continuously assesses clinical needs and are upgrading technology and equipment for the Family Birth Center. Hundreds of babies are born each year at Charlevoix Hospital. Each pregnancy and delivery is unique, and thus the care received is customized to meet each patient’s needs. It is our goal to not only strengthen obstetrical care, but to be the first choice for new and expectant mothers residing or living in Charlevoix, Antrim, Petoskey and surrounding counties. From labor to delivery and postpartum, keeping maternity care close to home is essential.
The total cost for these critical innovations at Charlevoix Hospital is $750,000.
Patient Needs
The Patient Needs Fund provides financial assistance for the urgent needs of patients during a health-related crisis. Medical social workers and case management staff identify and approve financial assistance through this fund, based on patient needs. Immediate assistance is often provided until other resources can be arranged in partnership with other human services agencies.
Help provided through the Patient Needs Fund includes:
- Gas cards, which allow patients to travel to and from home for medical appointments.
- Assistance with groceries, medications, rent/mortgage payments, utilities
